General Personality:
Despite the almost identical appearance of Sora, Vanitas' personality is the complete opposite. He is not kind, caring or share any traits of Sora beyond looks. He doesn't value friendship at all, if anything it's a way to slow him down. He is extremely selfish, only caring about himself. Despite being Xehanort's apprentice, he holds no respect for the old man or his orders.
Being the darker half of Ventus' heart, Vanitas lives to cause chaos, destruction and havoc to whatever world he visits. Since the boy feeds off of negativity, any dark emotion will only make him stronger and fuel his hatred.
He is quite arrogant, believing him to be the superior of his other, and anyone else. In the novels, it was revealed despite being a creature of pure darkness, Vanitas is capable of feeling other emotions. But because of his hatred and jealously of his other half, Ventus, Vanitas has blocked any other emotion within him. The events of being alone in the key blade graveyard changed him into the cruel person he is today. He views emotions like fear, sadness, loneliness, etc as a weakness and pays them no mind.
Overly confident in his abilities, sometimes biting off more than he can chew in fights. Vanitas enjoys taunting his opponents before battle. Fighting-wise he is an extremely aggressive fighter and won't hesitate to kill if necessary.
Background
Homeworld: Keyblade Graveyard
Current World: Twilight Town
History:
5 years before Birth By Sleep in the KH novels.
After Xehanort had torn Ventus' heart into two, extracting the darkness from the boys heart. Vanitas was created. Xehanort gave him his name, soon after he took the unconscious Ventus and left Vanitas alone in the desert wasteland.
Growing bored, all alone. Vanitas reached out his hand, in his fist appeared his keyblade, Void Gear. He swung it around for abit until a feeling hit him like a truck. He felt scared, It was the same emotion Ven felt while facing those neo heartless.
Vanitas was confused and lonely without his lighter half. The boy didn't know his purpose if he was separated from him, he almost felt panicked. Not knowing what his purpose was without Ventus.
And then it happened, an Unversed appeared. The dark haired boy didn't really know what it was at first, picking it up. He felt disgusted looking at the creature. Disgusted that a creature like that was part of himself. In an instant, he destroyed it with a full swing of his keyblade. Unlike Ventus, he was able to turn fear into power.
Sadly soon after his chest surged with pain, any time he destroyed an Unverse, his heart would hurt. Thus began the cycle, Vanitas would feel a negative emotion then he would destroy it. That triggered more emotional pain, causing more unversed to spawn. Master Xehanort returned later on, he found Vanitas collapsed on the ground, crying. The older man informed him that the only way to end his suffering was to create the X-Blade with his lighter half. Thus his hatred for Ventus grew.
Eventually Ventus' heart connected with Soras. When that happened Vanitas' also made contact. The light appeared around him, encouraging him to 'Open the Door'. His face changed, no longer looking like a faceless unversed, he had the face of the boy that Ventus' formed a bond with. The only difference being he had golden eyes and black hair, instead of the dark brown and blue.
Years later,
After Xehanort had sabotaged Terra's Qualification Exam. Vanitas hears about Ventus from the old man, he responds that he is still too weak to fuse with and that he would have to toughen him up. While Terra was leaving, Vanitas appeared in Ventus' room and taunted his other half about how his good friend Terra was going to change. Before Ventus could ask more questions, Vanitas opened up a corridor of darkness and left the confused boy.
With his plan to get Ventus to leave The Land of Departure working. Vanitas crossed paths with Ventus later on, he gave him a chase until they landed in The Keyblade Graveyard. Vanitas summoned Void Gear, Ventus quickly summoned his keyblade as well. Ventus lost the first round and fell to the desert floor, Vanitas remembered how Master Xehanort stated he needed him to complete the X-Blade and ordered him to keep Ven alive. Despite Xehanort being his master, he had little respect for the old man. The boy didn't care if he broke his order, he wanted Ventus gone. He was to weak for his plan anyway. After charging up darkness from his keyblade, he fired it towards his other half.
Luckily for Ventus, Mickey appeared. The mouse saved Ventus just in time. Annoyed by the kings appearance, Vanitas attacked. With Ven healed and the soon to be king fighting along side him. Vanitas lost the second round.
He escaped. Later on he ran into Aqua in Radiant Garden, he ignored her questions as he drew his keyblade. Vanitas underestimated her and lost the fight. When he fell to the ground, Aqua then tried and failed to remove his helmet. As soon as her hand reached out, Vanitas burst into fits of insane laughter. Standing up he opened a portal of darkness and left Radiant Garden.
Finding Ventus in Destiny Islands, Vanitas decided to pay him a visit. With his painful memories returning, Ventus was a weak target. Vanitas continued to taunt him and ordered him to meet in the Keyblade Graveyard, the only place where they could create the X-Blade. When Ventus refused, Vanitas responded he would just choke the life out of Terra and Aqua and quickly left Ventus.
Finally at the Keyblade graveyard, he struck down Aqua without hesitation. With the bluenette unconscious on the ground, he was ready to end her life with one stab of his Void Gear. However his lighter half had broken the ice spell around him and was ready to fight. Vanitas quickly turned his attention to Ventus and the two fought until Vanitas' body was ready to perish. Feeling arrogant with the situation going as planned, Vanitas revealed that he was the cause of the Unversed. After that he walked forward, ready to taken over Ventus' heart to complete the X-Blade.
The light and dark half's battled within their hearts as Aqua awoke and battled a Vanitas possessed Ven. As a last desperation move inside their hearts, Ventus and Vanitas clashed with both light and dark powers. Ventus was the victor, Vanitas lost grip of the incomplete X-blade and struggled to reach it. Unable to grab hold of it, he was defeated. Vanitas' heart shattered along with Ventus' and found their way to Sora's heart.
Role Play Sample
It had been years since he had fought Ventus for the X-blade.
A large swirling mass of purple, gray, and black appeared. Not long after a gloved hand stretched out from within, his fingers dug into the ground. The young man pulled himself out of the darkness portal as it disappeared. His black visor started to melt away and dissolve, trying to get a better look of the area.
His bright golden eyes scanned the place as he stood up, he wasn't sure where he was. There was some sort of town in the distance, a thick forest blocking the rest of his view. Then to the boys left, was a large worn down gate, and a mansion beyond that.
A strong sense of deja vu washed over him. His mind wandered and stopped, recalling his other half, Ventus. Ventus had to be the source of this feeling. A twinge of angry sparked in his heart, remembering him - their battle - the X-Blade - and how he actually lost to that idiot. He felt rage swell inside his chest. "Ventus.." Revenge was the only thing he wanted, next the X-Blade.
His jaw firmly clenched biting back the angry, his eyebrows furrowed. That fool had gotten lucky, if his blue haired friend hadn't made an appearance, things would've gone according to plan.
Darkness suddenly grew on his red armor, before detaching itself. All the years that had passed, he had been repairing his heart aswell. Ventus thought he had destroyed his darker half, well he was mistaken. After the blond destroyed his X-Blade and most of his heart; a small fragment remained. That piece leeched onto Sora aswell. It wasn't hard since Ventus had already made the connection to all of three of them. After that he slowly grew inside the boys heart, until he was strong enough to make his return.
Vanitas wasn't as strong as he used to be, but soon it'd be back to normal. The raven haired boy could feel his strengh returning by the minute.
He scowled reaching out a hand, a flicker of darkness followed by the Void Gear appearing in his fist. He would have his revenge, and take what was rightfully his; the X-blade. He lifted his keyblade to the right, signaling his Unversed to explore and attack the town up ahead.
With his left hand he opened up a darkness portal. Strands of black covered his face, his helmet re-appearing before taking a step through the portal. Now he just had to find Ventus.
