What are Abilities?
Well, simply put Abilities, whether they be physical or magical in origin, are a character's way of extending his or her power into a tangible form. A form in which can be directly applied both in an out of combat; to solve puzzles, defeat opponents and interact with the world all around them.
Starting Abilities
All characters here on Awakened Hearts are first created equal and balanced with their counterparts. With that in mind, any given character may only start with three basic abilities. Now what exactly those abilities entail are up to the creativity of the player and staff's ability to apply them to the power system fairly.
The Ability Rating System
Much like how player characters have a power rating, abilities have an overall rank that determines both their power and the cost of Ap and/or Mp to utilize them within a given roleplay. That said, the actually rating of an ability spans from a rating of E to a rating of A. With E being the lowest and A being the highest.
As noted above, characters on Awakened Hearts are created equal and in addition to the maximum of three starting abilities, a new character can only suggest and have abilities up to a D Rank. When filling out the new ability template, keep in mind that although a suggested D rank ability will be stronger than a suggested E rank, it will also cost more Mp or Ap to use in and out of combat.
The Ability Template
As seen in the character creation form:
Abilities: (You may have up to three.)
Ability Name:
Rating: (E being the lowest, A being the highest. New characters may only have D and E rated abilities.)
Ability Description:
This is the template for suggested new abilities and the way this works is simple. You describe what you would like your character to have and the staff put their heads together to create it in a form that coincides with the rules and fairly balances the power between all curent characters.
Can I only ever have 3 abilities?
The answer to that is no. As the overall power rating of your character grows, new ability slots will be unlocked and you can build your character further by requesting a new ability and spending the Tp required in order to create it. The form above will also serve as a guideline for doing such.
I've unlocked another ability slot, how much does it cost to get a new ability?
Well that depends largely on what ability rank you have decided your new ability to have. Certain restrictions also apply in the highest ranking you can give your ability based upon your characters current overall power rating as well.
I have some Tp to spend, where can I purchase a new ability?
In the character improvement section of the forum, there are two topics pinned. One of which is called the Pillar of Experience and the other is called the Pillar of Knowledge. To purchase abilities you'll want to navigate to the latter, ensure that you have the right amount of Tp in your character profile, also ensure that you have a free ability slot, and fill out the ability template to request a new ability. Afterwards, post the completed template in the Pillar of Knowledge. The staff will then work on creating your new ability.
Is there a limit to how many abilities a character can have?
At the moment, no. However, please remember that abilities your character currently has grow in power as your character's power rating increases. Just because you have a free ability slot, does not mean it is the best decision to request another ability to fill it.
