Battles here combine two aspects of roleplaying genre into one and allow conflicts between both Player Characters and Non-Player Characters to be settled fairly through the use of a intuitive system of stat-fields and character actions.
First off, I would like to point out that, although combat utilizes a simple stat and ability system, this will never overtake and should not be considered a substitute for actual roleplay. You will see below an example of what should be included for a post in battle to count, in addition to an explanation of proper turn order and etiquette.
Turn Order:
Player
Opponent
Judge
Player
Opponent
Noted above, a Judge is a member of the staff that will simply read over given posts in a battle and ensure that no rules have been broken and that no godmodding has taken place. He or she will then post again giving members a green light to continue a player vs player battle. In cases of Player Vs Npc Enemy, no judge is necessary, for the enemy would already be roleplayed by a member of the staff or a storyteller (see the quest section for details).
A sample post:
Ahead of Roxas, the heartless danced beneath the ground; their shadows contorting and fusing with the walls and taunting him as they drew ever closer. In a dazzling display of light, Oathkeeper and Oblivion formed in his hands; and as he took to rush at his foes, the remnant light particles dispersed up into the air and faded away into nothingness.
When one of the heartless broke free of its dance, he side-steeped and swung a keyblade in its direction. Remaining on his toes, the boy continued onward, his cloak rippling in all directions from the momentum of his strides and his eyes swiveling from one dancing shadow to another; ever watching for a yellow gaze.
Roxas
Actions: [Keyblade Swipe] Roxas swipes his keyblade at a foe and deals 5 damage (Costs 2 Ap)
Hp: 25
MP: 10
AP: 10(-2) 8
As you can see, at the end of my post, I posted a summary of what Roxas attempted and his current stat-fields levels. However, the simple explanation provided by my ability [Keyblade Swipe], should never replace the actual roleplay. Any actions by a character should in fact be roleplayed out to the best of your ability.
Now this might lead you to a rather obvious question: How many actions can I perform in a single turn? And the answer to that is: you may only perform one offensive action and one defensive action. Say for example, before I attacked as Roxas, I was in turn first struck at by a claw of the heartless I am facing. Well then, I have several choices, I could spend AP in order to partially or fully dodge the attack; I could take the damage, or I could cast a spell to heal myself. In any case, whether I am subtracting HP, AP, or Mp, that subtracting would occur before my offensive action. If Hp is depleted I may not act and I have lost the battle. While if Mp is depleted I cannot cast any offensive magic. Lastly, if my AP is depleted from dodging, I may not use a physical ability and would be forced to either cast a spell or retreat from battle.
Along that same line of thought, depending on whether or not you are responding to an attack or striking first in battle, a battle post can be broken up into a few phases....
Phase 1 Defensive (Damage Application, Dodges, Partial Dodges, Action Point Subtraction, Magic Point Subtraction)
There are several abilities that cause damage, but how do I dodge?
Dodging on Awakened Hearts is based on a third system. Which basically means, in order to dodge you must spend Ap in correlation to how much damage you want to dodge. For instance, by spending 1 Ap to dodge an attack, you would dodge 1/3 of the damage; for spending 2 Ap you will dodge 2/3 of the damage; and for spending 3 Ap you will dodge the attack fully.
Phase 2 Offensive (Actions taken against an opponent(s), Action Point Subtraction, Magic Point Subtraction)
Phase 3 End Phase (A way for the battle to continue and the summary portion of your post)
Remember, the flow of battle only lasts as long as either side has a character with more than 0 Hp and as long as a given character can cast spells or perform physical actions.
